Following Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation complete the Christian’s initiation in the Catholic Church.

Preparing Children for Eucharist and/or Confirmation

Children are typically prepared for their First Holy Communion through the Religious Education Program (CCD) at the parish, usually occurring in the second grade.

Similarly, children are typically prepared for their Confirmation through the same Religious Education Program at the parish. Confirmation is celebrated every other year. Therefore, children usually celebrate their Confirmation in either the seventh or eighth grade.

Occasionally, children do not receive these Sacraments at the customary age for a variety of reasons. If your child has been baptized but has not yet received First Holy Communion or Confirmation, please contact Fr. Phil Smith at psmith@toledodiocese.org to discuss the preparation and scheduling of these important Sacraments.

Preparing Adults for Eucharist and/or Confirmation

Adults seeking First Holy Communion and Confirmation are invited to begin the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA).

This process includes learning about the Catholic faith, participating in parish life, and preparing to receive Baptism, Confirmation, and/or the Eucharist.
